Dr. Mario World: Trademark – Is it making a comeback?

The new trademark sparked rumors of a Dr. Mario comeback. An underrated action game could be making its way to the Switch console.

Puzzle spin-off Dr. Mario once had a place on Nintendo’s radar, but at the same time, it apparently disappeared into obscurity. But now there may be a more or less complete reversal.

Nintendo has now registered a new trademark, sparking hopes for at least a remake among series fans. The focus is Dr. Mario World, which was originally released for mobile devices in 2019, was eventually discontinued in 2021, and has no longer been available for download.

Despite this attitude, Dr. Mario World was quite convincing at the time and was well received by fans of the puzzle series. Now, the game may be returning as a remaster on Nintendo Switch and/or Nintendo Switch 2. At least that’s what the name’s new trademark suggests.

In addition, “Dr. Mario World” was also Nintendo’s attempt to strengthen this business in Japan. At the same time, the company has exited the mobile business to focus on its core business in the classic console space—that’s where the Doctor plays in Mario World and works to hand out pills to eradicate viruses. An official confirmation or announcement from Nintendo is still awaited.
