Sennheiser has unveiled an updated version of its flagship wireless in-ear headphones that feature a major redesign. According to the supplier, this helps improve “Comfortable, stable and portable” Momentum True Wireless 5 headphones.

Just as importantly, users don’t have to throw away the Momentum True Wireless 5 in a few years because the built-in battery no longer holds a charge. The earphones themselves, as well as the accompanying storage case, feature user-replaceable batteries. To do this, you only need a tiny screwdriver, whereas previously you had to overcome the adhesive surface of the case to replace the battery.
Replaceable batteries are becoming increasingly common in consumer electronics. Among other things, this is facilitated by the European sustainability standards that will come into force early next year. They force electronics manufacturers to improve the repairability of their products. Sennheiser and other audio manufacturers such as Fender and Glorious already offer over-ear headphones with replaceable batteries. However, adoption of this technology has been slow in in-ear headphones, which are often assembled using glue to make them as small and light as possible.
As for the new Momentum True Wireless 5, it will be available on September 3 for $299.95. This corresponds to the cost of Momentum 4 when it enters the market in 2024. The device is available in five different body colors.
