Microsoft announced a partnership with the famous musical instrument manufacturer Gibson to promote the game “Gears of War: E-Day”. The Xbox team revealed a series of unique guitars honoring Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago. A total of 4 unique tools have been created, which will be showcased to players at Gamescom 2026 in Cologne. At the same time, they promised to have the opportunity to participate in the lottery for 3 of them.
Created by The Coalition in partnership with Gibson, the guitar line is based on two of the company’s iconic models – the Les Paul and the SG. The design was created by artist Luke Preece, who also participated in the visual design of Gears of War: E-Day. It should be emphasized that composer Adam Lastivka used Gibson guitars when producing the soundtrack for the shooting game.
Marcus Phoenix’s guitar is based on a Les Paul. The corpse has a skull, COG insignia, chainsaw elements, bloodstains, and damaged textures referencing the events of Breakout Day. According to Preece, this design was the hardest to adapt to the shape of the instrument, so it emphasized the chainsaw blade theme.
They chose a Gibson SG guitar for Dominic Santiago. The body was marked with a weeping skull, COG emblem, barbed wire and red poppies, symbolizing memory and loss. The artist also used images of wings and angel symbolism associated with the story of Dominic and Mary.
Each guitar is first created as a drawing, after which the design is transferred to the instrument and hand-painted by Preece. Each copy is individually numbered and signed by the artist.
