The global memory shortage has sparked a real war of automation scripts in online stores. According to a report by cybersecurity research firm DataDome, malicious reseller bots accounted for an incredible 91% of traffic on a large retailer’s DDR5 RAM page. This means that for every real buyer, the program that continuously scans items for availability and price makes approximately ten requests. For comparison, back in the spring, the ratio was 6 to 1.

The repurchase algorithm sends requests every 6.5 seconds, bypassing the storage cache mechanism to intercept modules as soon as they arrive in the repository. Such an influx of robots is directly related to the explosion in DRAM costs – a 32 GB DDR5-6000 memory kit cost about $72 last year, and now prices have risen to an average of $392, with high-end 128 GB kits costing tenfold. Experts point out that unlike past graphics card crises, the supply of consumer DDR5 memory will not stabilize until 2027.
