LG Display launches FLiPP OLED technology - brightness increased by 1.6 times and service life increased by 2.4 times

LG Display announced the launch of an innovative screen manufacturing process called FLiPP (FMM-Less Innovative Pixel Patterning). The main innovation is the complete abandonment of the traditional metal FMM masks used for many years to apply sub-pixels. Instead, manufacturers turned to using UV light for lithography, which solves the long-standing problem of heavy template sag and allows pixels to be formed with high precision.

Thanks to the new technology, the useful light-emitting area of each sub-pixel has been increased by 55%. This allows manufacturers to flexibly set parameters – the brightness of the new generation screen can be increased by 1.6 times, the durability and burnout resistance will be increased by 2.4 times, and the energy consumption will be reduced by 13%. In addition, the transition to solid glass substrates in the 8.5G generation has increased material usage efficiency by 64%, which will significantly reduce production costs. LG Display plans to apply the technology to displays of various sizes, from compact virtual reality headsets and tablets to giant 100-inch TVs.
