Lionsgate seemed to start casting for the live-action movie by looking for Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura, but in the end, the first thing fans got to see was Kakashi – who will be played by Charles Melton.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed his involvement. The 35-year-old American actor from Alaska is best known to viewers for TV series “Riverdale” and “Gnat,” for which he was recently nominated for an Emmy for his role in the latter. He also filmed the movie “Bad Boys: Lifetime.” Melton is currently finalizing negotiations with the studio.
The script for the live-action “Naruto” is being written by Tasha Ho (“The Witcher: Origins”), while director Destin Daniel Cretton (“Spider-Man: A New Day”) will be directed by the now-hot Destin Daniel Cretton – whose candidacy was personally approved by Ben Masashi, who was in charge of the project, long before the success of Spider-Man. Filming is expected to begin in the first half of 2027. New content for the cult series about the ways of the ninja is expected to be announced on October 10, 2026.
