Riot Games has announced that it will soon cease active support for League of Legends fighting game 2XKO until the end of 2026. The project will stop receiving content updates, but there are no plans to shut down the servers. The game can be downloaded and played on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The developers explained this decision by citing low player retention and activity. While there was interest in individual updates and tournaments, audience growth was not consistent enough to ensure the project’s continued survival. According to Riot, the cost of supporting 2XKO significantly exceeds revenue, and overall player engagement has remained relatively stable even after the major update.
Until the end of the year, the team will continue to release content that has been prepared, fix bugs and balance the work. Sales of KO Points have been discontinued and if you have previously purchased the currency you can request a full refund.
The upcoming September update 1.3.1 will add a new heroine Lux. Additionally, most paid cosmetics will be combined into the 2XKO Ultimate Bundle, priced at $39.99. It will include all previously released skins, color options, finishing moves, and taunts. The author will also remove the battle pass, KO points, character tokens, seasons, and events from the game. All characters are free for all players. For in-game points, you’ll be able to get avatar items, some basic character color options, arena and profile elements.
Ranked mode will also be disabled. Matchmaking will move to regular lobbies, where opponents are selected by skill level. Closed lobbies will continue to operate without any changes and their capacity will be increased to 40 players. They will also add voice chat and a large map.
The last major content patch, 1.3.3, will be released in October. He will add Samira, who will be the last new 2XKO character. The Ultimate Bundle will then update to include the remaining skins and cosmetics, and bundle owners will receive them automatically. Patch 1.3.5 is planned for release in December, if needed. It will focus primarily on bug fixes and should not contain major new content.
The 2XKO competitive series will continue until the end of 2026 as originally planned. The final game of the series will take place in November, and organizers will be able to host their own tournaments in the game even after active development is completed.
