On the eve of Gamescom 2026, photos of the CD Projekt RED booth under construction have appeared online, with materials dedicated to the mysterious addition having been released “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” – Song of the Past. One of the pieces of art is of particular interest to fans: it depicts a scene that could hint at Belletani’s famous holiday return to the game.
The release of Song of the Past came as a surprise to fans of The Witcher 3. Ten years after the release of Blood and Wine CD Project RED decided to expand Geralt’s adventures once again, although the studio’s core team is currently busy developing The Witcher 4. Although the developers are not eager to reveal the details of the DLC. All we know is that its full reveal will take place at Gamescom.
The expansion’s original key art showed Geralt holding three swords (one in his hand and two slung on his back) with a mysterious tree creature standing behind him. Now players have another visual source of material. It depicts a festive scene near the reservoir: people wearing wreaths, candles, boats and other elements create the atmosphere of a large-scale folk festival.
It was this detail that gave rise to a new theory. Many fans believe that the developers could showcase Belletain, an ancient fertility festival that exists in the world of The Witcher but has yet to appear directly in The Witcher 3. Interestingly, “Beletan” is tied to Ciri and Yennefer’s birthdays, so its potential appearance is not only decorative but also has plot significance.
However, CD Projekt RED has yet to confirm this speculation. Little is known about the plot of “Song of the Past.” Previously, there were rumors about Geralt’s journey to the coastal city of Sidaris and the important role of Dandelion, but this information has not been officially confirmed. As such, the festival stage remains another mystery ahead of the DLC’s launch.
“Songs of the Past” was originally scheduled to be released in 2026, but its release was postponed to 2027. CD Projekt RED is working with fool theory – A studio that includes former developers of The Witcher 3. According to CDPR, additional time was needed to bring the project to the highest possible quality.
Perhaps Song of the Past will be one of Geralt’s last big adventures. The protagonist of The Witcher 4 has been officially announced as the mature Ciri, who is mastering the wizarding profession herself. Meanwhile, Geralt won’t be completely gone from the new game: actor Doug Coker was previously confirmed to be returning to his iconic character. How important his role will be remains unknown.
Now fans just have to wait for Gamescom. If the Belletan theory is correct, the new art could be the first hint of one of Geralt’s most unusual adventures.
