The team at Embark Studios has announced plans to significantly revamp the exploration mechanics in action shooter ARC Raiders. The upcoming fifth expedition will be the last in its current form, before the system will take an extended vacation and return with major improvements in early 2027.
Expeditions allows players to voluntarily reset their progress, reset their character level and stash, in exchange for permanent and temporary rewards, including additional skill points and increased storage space. However, the feature has been controversial since its release due to an imbalanced reward structure and awkward time window. The penultimate exploration window will open on September 8 and close on September 29, after which the developers will focus on rethinking the mechanics.
What are your thoughts on voluntary wipe and progress reset mechanics in extraction shooters?
