Amid the ongoing memory shortage, NVIDIA has signed new agreements with SK Hynix and Micron to supply chips for its products. According to Edgewater Research, these agreements were reached after NVIDIA lowered its DRAM forecast.

The research firm said we may be discussing multi-year supply contracts for HBM and DRAM. Such protocols are becoming increasingly common as the demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure continues to grow. They enable memory manufacturers to achieve more predictable order volumes and invest in capacity expansion with greater confidence.

The problem is that it’s almost impossible to increase memory output quickly. Construction of new semiconductor factories takes years and requires huge investments, so market participants say shortages are likely to persist for a long time. Previously, the chairman of MSI admitted that the memory shortage will last throughout 2026, and AMD warned that DDR5 prices may not return to normal levels until 2028.

Edgewater Research also pointed out that memory prices in 2027 may not be finalized until the end of 2026. That could push manufacturers and large customers into new long-term contracts. According to previous reports, Samsung and SK Hynix have shifted their focus from annual agreements to three- to five-year contracts.
