Attention: A virus impersonating GTA VI has appeared

In the constantly lively atmosphere around grand theft auto 6 Attackers began actively exploiting interest in gaming to spread malicious profiles. A large number of downloads are appearing on pirated resources that present themselves as full versions of the GTA 6 game, despite the fact that they contain malware.

The scam itself is nothing new: Scammers often disguise viruses as highly anticipated games, especially major AAA titles. However, in GTA 6, the situation is particularly favorable for attackers. In recent weeks, there have indeed been a large number of real leaks on the Internet, making it more difficult for users to distinguish between true and false information.

One of the main sources for this wave of material is an unknown insider Internet Weekly. He posted gameplay footage, a world map, and other information about the project rock starand he viewed his actions as a protest against the controversial practices of the gaming industry. CyberLeek specifically criticized digital pre-orders, paid content unlocks, and the reliance of some single-player games on servers.

At the same time, the source’s activities also have a clear commercial overtone. CyberLeek promoted its own cryptocurrency and later even offered to run ads in future GTA 6 leaked publications. As a result, there was such an active wave of information surrounding insiders that many users actually began to believe that there were full-fledged pirated versions of the game.

This is exactly what malware distributors are using now.

NordVPN CTO Marius Bridis said that repeated mentions of GTA 6 in the news and on social networks create ideal conditions for the spread of false “leaks.” The actual video is copied, re-uploaded to various websites, distributed via Discord and website mirrors, and a link to the so-called running version of the game appears next to it.

What’s especially dangerous is that such documents appear convincing. For example, the attacker distributed a huge file approximately 114 GB in size, with a name reminiscent of the full version of GTA 6. Such a torrent seems reasonable to users who follow the latest leaks and are aware of the existence of unofficial versions of the game.

However, it has not yet been confirmed whether a downloadable full version of GTA 6 exists. Additionally, the official launch of the game is expected only on November 19, 2026so requests to download a game months before release should be made with extreme caution.

GTA 6’s history itself creates more confusion. As early as 2022, Rockstar’s internal systems suffered a large-scale attack, causing about 90 videos of early versions of the game to be leaked online. In August 2026, a new series of leaks emerged, and Take-Two subsequently officially confirmed the unauthorized distribution of material. Therefore, the current claims about “merger assembly” appear at first glance to be more convincing than ordinary fraudulent offers.

However, this is exactly what criminals exploit: the real leak becomes a decoy, while the fake document seems more reliable.

This situation is especially important on the eve of the main official show of GTA 6. August 27 Rock Stars and Netflix An extended demo of the game will be shown, which will be available first on the streaming service and then on the official Rockstar platform a few hours later. The demo is expected to last approximately 30 minutes and will be the largest official GTA 6 demo to date.

By now, players should remember one simple rule: if someone offers to download the complete GTA 6 long before its official release, it’s almost certainly not a game, but a scam or a malicious profile.
