Purported packaging photos of the iPhone 18 Pro have surfaced online, once again fueling rumors of a major camera update. Particularly striking in the image is the lens of the main module, which may have an unusual design.
We’re talking about the variable aperture of the 48-megapixel main camera. This mechanism will allow you to physically change the size of the lens aperture and control the amount of light entering the sensor. For smartphones, this means more flexibility when it comes to exposure and the ability to blur backgrounds more naturally without relying entirely on software algorithms.
Rumors about such a system have been circulating for months. Previously, supply chain sources said components for the variable aperture mechanism have been produced, and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also said the iPhone 18 Pro will be equipped with such a camera. According to him, new modules and enlarged sensors will require additional space within the housing.
However, the image itself cannot yet be seen as confirmation of the smartphone’s features. The packaging may be real or fake, so Apple will only officially reveal the final details. If this information is confirmed, the camera will be one of the most significant hardware differences between the iPhone 18 Pro and its predecessor – and finally allow iPhone users to truly play with aperture.
