New Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis game features puzzles, acrobatics and combat

Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog release new gameplay video Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantiswhich gives us a closer look at how the developers are reimagining the original Tomb Raider’s classic formula. The demo centered around a level in Peru, with Lara Croft exploring ancient ruins in search of tombs and related artifacts. At the same time, the creators stress that their main mission is to preserve the spirit of the 1996 game while making the adventure more accessible and attractive to modern audiences.

Peru in Legacy of Atlantis is much more detailed than in the original. The developers paid special attention to the architectural style of the ancient buildings and the construction of the site itself. The spaces here aren’t just designed to follow a predetermined route: during exploration, Lara can discover other areas that don’t need to be visited to advance the plot. This approach should encourage players to carefully study the world around them and independently find their way forward.

Puzzles will once again be one of the core components of the adventure. team Crystal Dynamics Try to make them not just a barrier between two points, but an integral part of the environment. Players must change the state of location elements, interact with mechanics and analyze features of ancient architecture. At the same time, solutions should flow logically from the structure of the world itself, rather than looking like tasks artificially placed by the developer.

The creators also deliberately avoided too many visual cues. Players are encouraged to independently notice details of the environment and guess which ones might be part of the puzzle, rather than obvious interactive objects. If necessary, help can be obtained through Laura’s comments and additional hint system, however, these tools are optional.

Pay special attention to movement at each level. Lara Croft demonstrates a variety of acrobatic moves, allowing her to cross chasms and explore multiple levels of ruins. In this way, puzzles, exploration, and action are tightly intertwined, a hallmark of earlier entries in the series.

After a peaceful exploration, the demonstrations suddenly turned to fighting. In the film, Lara Croft battles a raptor, with the battle presented in a dynamic third-person perspective. The heroine can actively avoid attacks, and timely execution of maneuvers can give the enemy time to briefly slow down and gain an advantage.

However, the testing didn’t end there. At one point, a giant T-Rex appears, after which the usual combat turns into an intense chase scene in which Lara must escape the predator, showcasing another side of the redesigned gameplay.

So the new footage shows that Legacy of Atlantis not only relies on modern graphics, but also returns to the classic Tomb Raider formula of exploring, moving vertically, finding hidden passages and solving spatial problems. At the same time, the developers are significantly modernizing the combat system and action scenes.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will be released on February 12, 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2.
