After the closed demonstration grand theft auto 6 Journalists had the opportunity to take a closer look at the results of Rockstar Games’ work in recent years. Studio representatives showed off a long clip of the game and discussed many mechanics that weren’t obvious even after the official 27-minute reveal. Judging from the new details, Rockstar is betting not just on expanding the map, but on creating a world where systems are constantly interacting.

One of the main impressions is the scale of Sin City and its surrounding areas. The city itself is roughly twice the size of Los Santos, according to Rockstar grand theft auto 5and outside of metropolitan areas, there will be more built-up areas, including small towns and other densely populated areas. At the same time, players do not have to wait long for the entire world to become available: after the first story mission, a large part of the map will be open for free exploration.
Another important feature is the amount of available interior trim. In GTA 6, you will be able to enter many shops and other buildings, explore the interiors, go up to rooftops, and return to certain locations after completing the corresponding story missions. Therefore, Rockstar is committed to making the city no longer a decoration around players, but a full-fledged space for exploration.
Serious changes also affected the car. In GTA 6, vehicles will have a fuel system: it is possible to run out of gasoline, which directly affects the course of events. Electric vehicles, in turn, must be charged. However rock star Stress that refueling shouldn’t be a routine task – a full tank of gas will last you a long time.
The physics of cars have also become significantly more complex. Damage now affects the car’s behavior, with severe deformation of the body altering handling. Even an overturned car cannot be easily restored to its original state. Different models will perform differently on different types of road surfaces, and modifications will improve the vehicle’s performance.
In this case, car stealing actually becomes a separate game system. Some cars may require special tools, and expensive cars may come with alarms and tracking systems. Stolen vehicles can be sold through various sales points, and specialist dealers will be more willing to pay for specific models. The condition of the car will also affect the final amount.
The economy will also play an important role. Rockstar wants money to actually be a valuable resource for the first time in the series. At certain points in the game, players must make money themselves by robbing, stealing, or finding other ways to get rich. Money can be obtained by selling stolen cars, robbing stores and gas stations, and performing other criminal activities.
In this case, cash and bank funds are kept separate. If Jason or Lucia are captured, the money may be lost and the bank account will be shared between the two characters.
The police system underwent major reforms. Law enforcement will no longer automatically know where criminals are: they will respond to what they actually see. A suspect’s description may include clothing, appearance, vehicle and weapons. Therefore, after committing a crime, changing your car or clothes can help you escape.
Police officers will also not always be displayed on the minimap, forcing players to pay more attention to what is going on around them. If both Jason and Lucia were wanted at the same time, it would also make practical sense to separate the two characters: part of the law enforcement’s attention would shift to the second hero.
The two protagonists’ systems are now more closely connected to the gameplay. Jason and Lucia aren’t just two characters you can switch between, like in Grand Theft Auto V. They share common relationship indicators, the same bank account, and the ability to connect with each other. In a car chase, one character can drive the car and another can fire the gun, and the player can switch between the two during the process.
The combat system has also become more detailed. In GTA 6, you don’t have to kill the enemy: hitting certain parts of the body can paralyze him. At the same time, the game also records the difference between normal damage, neutralization, and kills. This approach is tied to the new Crime Profile, which takes player actions into account and has the potential to influence how the story develops.
Another notable change is the limited weapons arsenal. Characters will no longer be able to carry a nearly unlimited number of weapons. Some weapons must be stored in the trunk of a car. You can also transport clothes there, which is especially useful when hiding from the police.
Rockstar is also bringing back elements from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Jason and Lucia’s physiques change based on diet and exercise. The game tracks metrics like weight, muscle mass, strength, and calories, but the developers don’t want to turn these systems into a mandatory routine.
The world of GTA 6 will be filled with activities outside of the main campaign. Players will be able to explore underwater areas, search for shipwrecks and treasures, discover gang bases and infiltrate there openly or covertly. NPCs received a huge amount of attention: their numbers varied depending on the time of day and specific areas, and Rockstar even created a separate team dedicated to dialogue between residents.
Finally, the developers promise more diverse story missions. In addition to large-scale shootouts and robberies, there will be calm and unusual events, providing necessary contrast. Rockstar compared the length of the main game to Red Dead Redemption 2, although the final completion time will vary greatly depending on the amount of add-on content.
The interconnectedness of all these mechanics seems to be GTA 6’s main feature. A stolen car may be almost out of gas, which is why you have to look for another car; the police can remember the criminal’s appearance; changing clothes can help you hide; a damaged car will generate less revenue when sold, and the proceeds will be used to further the activity.
So it seems like Rockstar is trying to make not only the biggest GTA, but also the most complex and interconnected game system in the series’ history. Players will be able to test how well all of these mechanics work together when GTA 6 launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026.
