As the pace of competition accelerates, some Google employees are already using a preview version of Gemini 3.8 Flash AI models, and the company is releasing updated versions every few weeks to keep up with OpenAI and Anthropic.

Google employees can reportedly use new model called Gemini 3.8 Flash Preview on internal Jetski coding platform business insider. One of the company’s employees who had a chance to test the new model said it was significantly better than the current 3.7 Flash, but expressed reservations that it was too early to tell. The flagship Gemini 3.5 Pro never came out, and Anthropic and OpenAI were ahead of Google in the AI race, so the search giant didn’t have a cutting-edge model. He was forced to rely on the Flash family of models, which were faster and cheaper for users – and customers began to closely monitor AI spending.
Google positions them as “workhorses” for writing code and running artificial intelligence agents, which burn through tokens faster than chatbots but are becoming increasingly popular for a variety of tasks. Prior to this, Google launched Gemini Spark AI agent, Meta✴ Currently testing my own Hatch. Google does release fast models quickly, with the Gemini 3.6 Flash arriving in July and the 3.7 Flash three weeks later. CEO Sundar Pichai said the gap between versions will be less than a month. This means Gemini 3.8 Flash may appear in the near future. Some artificial intelligence experts are convinced they have discovered Gemini 3.8 Flash on Arena AI, an artificial intelligence model testing platform where Google has previously tested future versions.
