The long-awaited game Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy was released a few days ago to rave reviews from critics and players alike. The technical experts at Digital Foundry have released a comprehensive analysis of the project for Xbox Series X | S and Playstation 5 | 5 Pro. Their testing shows that Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy on Xbox Series X performs better than Playstation 5 Pro.
The game Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy on Xbox Series X, Playstation 5 and Playstation 5 Pro has 2 graphics modes – prioritizing quality (30 FPS) or performance (60 FPS). When using a 120Hz screen, modes are limited to 40 FPS and 120 FPS. Interestingly, in both modes, the Xbox Series X showed more stable and higher frame rates than the Playstation console. Here’s what Digital Foundry has to say about it:
Perhaps the most surprising result from our testing was the Xbox Series X’s performance advantage. Across modes, including the unlocked 120Hz refresh rate mode, Series X consistently delivers more stable frame rates and better optimizations than its Playstation counterpart, even when running at the same resolution target. While the exact reason for this advantage is unclear, it is currently the best-performing platform for the game.
Below you can see a few comparison screenshots that fully demonstrate the dominance of Xbox Series X:
But it’s worth noting that the Playstation 5 Pro version is graphics superior to the Xbox Series X, thanks in large part to Sony’s PSSR upgrade, which delivers sharper detail in distant backgrounds like leaves and branches while significantly reducing flickering and banding when the camera moves compared to the standard TAA upgrade.
Let us remind you that Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is available on Game Pass.
