The opening ceremony of the Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 exhibition left a double impression on many players: in addition to the exhibition mainly promoting remakes and remakes of old classics, TheGamer’s investigation also revealed an unpleasant pattern.
Nearly a quarter of the projects shown in the demo (13 out of 55 games, or 23.64%) used generative AI to varying degrees in development or marketing.
The list includes major releases like Crimson Desert: Enhanced Edition, Aion 2, and Taxi World Tour, as well as projects using AI for voice acting (such as Blood of the Dawn Treader and Train Simulator 7) or NPC generation (Ananta). Meanwhile, experts point out that the industry’s actual numbers are much higher because many studios are reluctant to advertise the use of neural networks.
