In an interview with Denfaminicogamer at gamescom 2026, Ryu Ga Gotoku studio producer Hiroyuki Sakamoto talked about the technical approach to the development of the upcoming action role-playing game Strangers from Paradise. The studio, historically known for reusing assets between installments of the Yakuza series, has ditched old graphics development entirely this time around.
According to Sakamoto, rejecting support for previous-generation consoles (PlayStation 4 and Xbox One) allowed the team to focus entirely on the functionality of PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, creating all locations, models, and textures from scratch. Yes, the project will still be similar to Enter the Dragon, but only in overall spirit, but in terms of graphics and animation it will be a completely new game.
Strangers in Paradise is scheduled to be released on January 15, 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
