PlayStation users hoping for a quick release of open-world racing game Forza Horizon 6 on Sony’s console may have to wait longer than expected. Judging from current insider reports and media reports, it is possible that the PS5, originally planned to be released in 2026, has been canceled internally. Following the launch of PC and Xbox Series versions, industry experts now believe it won’t be until 2027 that you can embark on a journey into the world of virtual racing gaming on PS5.
Statements from well-known industry journalist Tom Warren and reports from VGC Magazine, among others, have given new impetus to rumors surrounding a major shift. Market observers initially assumed developer Playground Games would release a PS5 version later in 2026.
The main reason for the internal delay is the workload of the development studio: the team is currently focusing a lot of energy on completing the reboot of role-playing game Fable, which is why the technical porting process to PS5 is taking longer than initially expected.
Despite growing frustration among the fan base, there’s currently no sign that the PlayStation version will be canceled entirely. Xbox boss Asha Sharma has reiterated several times in previous media appearances that Microsoft will stick to its multi-platform strategy for the games it has announced. Furthermore, the commercial success of the Xbox and PC versions (more than 6 million units sold) shows how much financial potential the PS5 branch holds for the group.
An alternative date other than 2027 could have strategic advantages for Microsoft and Playground Games. On the one hand, the game avoids the crowded release window of the late 2026 months, when the gaming industry’s general attention is heavily monopolized by other major projects. On the other hand, the extra development time gives developers the necessary headroom to take their time tweaking the PS5’s hardware and deliver technically complex ports.
