Google Gemini will be able to “think” in the background while users do other things on their smartphones

Google’s Gemini AI assistant is very useful, especially when it’s layered over the rest of an Android smartphone interface. The feature can be triggered by long-pressing the power button. But in this mode, the owner of the device cannot perform any other operations on the Gemini while it is operating. But Google is already testing the Assistant’s ability to work in the background.

In the code of the latest version of Google App v17.54.10, resource reporters Android Authority Discovery mentions a new feature. When overridden, Gemini applications will be able to automatically minimize themselves when processing user commands. That is, you can call the AI ​​assistant, ask it a question, and it will automatically collapse into a floating button, giving the smartphone owner the opportunity to use it further.

Now this is not possible: the overlay format remains active throughout the conversation, which means that you will not be able to perform any other actions on the device while the AI ​​assistant is active. If Google implements multitasking, working with Gemini will become more comfortable. Previously, a link to a Gemini minimize button was discovered in the same app that would force this action, but it has not yet appeared in the main version of the Google app. The company hasn’t announced specific plans yet, and it’s unclear which option will appear in the public version of the app.
