Microsoft has begun testing the ability to convert discs into digital copies among insiders. The company has previously said that this will be as simple as possible to implement, and players will be able to get all the benefits of a digital version of the game while only owning a physical Xbox item. Specifically, Xbox One or Xbox Series X games can be converted to Play Anywhere versions, which will also provide you with a digital copy on your PC.
The first insiders clearly show how the new feature works. Below you can watch a video of a user converting the disc to a digital version.
To convert a disc to a digital disc:
- You need to bring up the menu on the game tile from the inserted disc and select the option to repay the digital license.
- The operation is then confirmed.
- Thereafter, the license will be unlocked and linked to the currently active account on the console.
Players can then take advantage of all the benefits of a digital copy of the item in the Xbox ecosystem. In the meantime, let us remind you that the feature is now available for over 1,000 games, but so far, not all games released on Xbox One and Xbox Series X discs. Xbox 360 and original Xbox discs cannot be used.
