Atlus studio management has commented on its approach to script adaptation in the upcoming reimagining of Persona 4: The Revival. Amid controversy in the community about possible censorship and tweaks to classic jokes, the author rushed to reassure fans that the characters would retain their identities.
The head of the development team emphasized that the studio is not changing any personality traits, motivations, or key aspects of the characters—they will remain exactly the same people players fell in love with in the original game. But the “small targeted changes” will only affect individual phrases and wordings, making spoken language more natural and in line with modern reality, and getting rid of the outdated speech structures of the past.
The task Atlus set themselves was to carefully transfer the spirit and atmosphere of Inaba Town without completely altering the original author’s vision.
