Microsoft continues to expand its partnerships with TV manufacturers to distribute the Xbox app on them. Microsoft’s gaming ecosystem is already available on TVs from LG, Samsung and Hisense, and now they’ve also announced a partnership with TCL
The Xbox app will be launched soon on TCL smart TVs. The announcement states that it will initially appear in 25 countries. TV owners only need a controller and access to Xbox Cloud Gaming to play games without a console. We need to remind everyone that Microsoft will restrict Xbox cloud games starting in November. This has been criticized by many players. They actually adopt a model of accessing the Xbox catalog entirely through the “cloud” on TVs without set-top boxes.
Chris Schnackenberg, vice president of business development at Xbox, commented on the cooperation with TCL as follows:
We want to be a place for people to play. This means you have more choices in how and where you play, and it’s easier to get your Xbox experience.
Microsoft has not revealed the specific TCL smart TV models that will receive the app or its exact release date.
