Rumors about a new game in the StarCraft series emerged as early as January as part of this year’s BlizzCon. There are only a few days left until the event – which will take place on September 12th and 13th. The Xbox team itself has promised an announcement, and now players have noticed a trailer on the StarCraft website.

Messages are presented in the form of in-game broadcasts and partially hidden files. In one, a sergeant whose name is partially obscured informed the management of the Roxa lunar mining complex of the Theta Squadron’s arrival on August 9, 2575. Other records found include the Banshee’s cargo manifest (referring to Order 556-217), sensor station readings (which recorded 14 moving objects without anyone registering them), and 2 medical reports. Additionally, unknown user ID 2560037-DA is attempting to access the Dominion system. One of the entries requested information about the mysterious Special Order 176, but the system responded that the permission level was insufficient for this request. Additional login attempts will result in a “User Tag” warning and a request to contact Dominion Help Desk.
The year 2575 indicated in the document is also noteworthy, as the events of StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void take place around the year 2505. That said, the new game will likely cover events roughly 70 years in the future.
There were previous rumors that Blizzard might launch a StarCraft shooter. There are also reports that the series could be sold to Nexon Publishing as a whole.
