“Final Fantasy 7: Revelations” director Naoki Hamaguchi hopes to remake the legend for future generations:

During the “From Reunion to Resolution: Designing the FF7 Remake Trilogy” panel at PAX West 2026, Remake Trilogy Director Naoki Hamaguchi and Combat Director Teruki Endo shared their vision for the long-term future of the Cloud Strife universe. Hamaguchi stated that the conclusion of the large-scale trilogy subtitled “Final Fantasy 7: Revelations” will not be a point in the development of this universe.

The purpose of this remake was not just to remember old gamers, but to adapt the cult story from 1997 to modern standards and deliver it to a new generation of gamers.

We hope this work will attract new fans 20 or 30 years from now.

Square Enix is committed to making Final Fantasy VII an ongoing series. While Hamaguchi didn’t specify a specific format (whether it’s a new spin-off, an adaptation of recent storylines like the Cerberus Dirge sequel, or an animated project), the company doesn’t plan to keep the world around after the trilogy ends.
