Guerrilla may be developing a new Killzone, maybe a remake

Guerrilla Games appears to be working on a new Killzone game, but it’s still in the preliminary stages of development, according to a new report posted by the website MP1ST (which cited unidentified internal sources).

To be precise, the project will be the result of Guerrilla’s collaboration with an external studio (possibly not affiliated with PlayStation Studios) and could be a remake or remaster of one of the previously released main chapters.

The idea is that it could be a remake of the first chapter of 2004, which might make more sense for the idea of relaunching the series to a modern audience twenty years after it began.

According to some rumors, it seems that Guerrilla has been planning the return of Killzone for some time, following up on the already announced online multiplayer game Horizon Hunters Gathering.

Considering the latter may require more work than expected, and in an attempt to make it more appealing to the public after initial reactions weren’t entirely convincing, work on Killzone may be slow for a while.

As a result, Killzone’s return may take longer than expected, and perhaps the idea of relying on outside teams is also to make up for the amount of resources Horizon Hunters Gathering still needs.

As for the identity of this external team, there is no information yet, but according to MP1ST, it may be People Can Fly, as it was already connected with the studio last year to develop a mysterious project codenamed “Delta”.

It’s been 13 years since the final chapter of the series, 2013’s Killzone: Shadow Fall, released on PS4, has proven to be a much-appreciated game, and the multiplayer is so active that the game remains online until 2022.
