Development studio IllFonic is about to release its asymmetrical multiplayer horror game Halloween: The Game, which has involuntarily become the focus of the gaming world. According to reports and reactions on social media, the developers have completely removed an intimate mini-game from the game as part of an interim pre-release update. Emergency action was taken in less than 24 hours after players in the pre-order early access phase noticed that the game’s mechanical features may have been mismanaged due to incorrect mapping.
The mini-game was originally intended to be a humorous allusion to the classic horror movie cliche “sex leads to death”, which was used frequently in the original film. However, during implementation, the development team overlooked a serious complication in the character roster: playable characters such as 17-year-old Annie Brackett could be played in the game alongside 56-year-old Dr. Samuel Loomis, whose appearance is based on the late actor Donald Pleasence.
The fact that a character similar to the late actor could end up in such a machinist with an underage character caused a swift wave of indignation and outrage among fans on networks like X and Reddit.
The studio responded immediately by completely removing interaction with the Hotfix 1 update from the code. While no direct reason was given in the patch’s official release notes, game reports on community forums confirmed the mechanic’s absence. In developer circles, the incident was viewed as a major failure of quality control, as such blatant design errors should have been noticed in advance.
It’s unclear if the system will be reintroduced with revised mechanics and restrictions on adult characters. The game will be officially released for PC and consoles on September 8, 2026.
