Following the release of story-driven action game Crimson Desert, the gaming community continues to debate the possible emergence of a multiplayer mode. In an interview with the MeinMMO portal, Jin-hwan Kim and Jin-ho Yun, chief engineers of Pearl Abyss’ graphics department, talked about the Blackspace engine created for online games and confirmed that the technical foundation for multiplayer games was originally laid in this engine.

However, the developer did not directly answer plans for adding co-op or MMO elements, citing that the team’s current priority is developing the project and its upcoming major expansion, Drawn Unknown, which is set to release on October 16, 2026.

Previously, the studio noted that the return of the online component would depend on the commercial success of the game and the performance of the graphics system.
