After Capcom officially confirmed that it was developing a standalone port of Monster Hunter: Wildlands for Nintendo Switch 2 in June 2026, there was still uncertainty about the release date. As part of the current Nintendo Direct presentation, the Japanese development studio giant let the cat out of the bag: the Switch 2 version of the landmark action RPG will launch globally on December 4, 2026. That means the complex port of the previous PC and console blockbuster will hit Nintendo’s new mobile hardware nearly a year and a half after it was originally sold on competing platforms. Pre-orders for digital and physical copies of the port will begin on October 19, 2026.
The announcement provides important details about what’s included in the new platform version. The Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds will be released directly with all content updates, balance patches, and optimizations from the main version released to date. Players on Nintendo’s new hardware will receive a fully developed pack from day one, containing all the additional monsters, gear, and quality-of-life improvements that PC and console owners have gradually received since the original launch.
The developers also confirmed that the game will support cross-platform cross-play, allowing Switch 2 hunters to hunt seamlessly with existing communities on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Technically speaking, the implementation of Monster Hunter Wilds will be a major test for the Nintendo Switch 2’s hardware architecture. Capcom’s RE engine had to adapt the game’s extremely dynamic ecosystem – which features huge monster hordes, interactive weather phenomena and seamless area transitions with no load times – to mobile chipsets.
By moving the date to December 4th, the developers have also shortened the time gap to the next major milestone in the series: Monster Hunter: Wild Rise, the first milestone expansion for Master Level, has been launched in 2027, and will also be released on Switch 2 at a later date.
