At the press conference, Playstation Studios head Herman Hulst said that the project will be “Part of the collaboration between PlayStation and Kojima Productions”but now Sony has decided to abandon the game.

The Playstation team on their social networks publish Clarification on the situation regarding PHYSINT games:

News from Playstation Studios: After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to terminate our cooperation with KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS on the PHYSINT project. We still have great admiration for Hideo Kojima’s vision for this game.

After three decades of creative collaboration, our relationship remains strong, setting industry standards and defining genres, and we look forward to continuing to work closely with Hideo Kojima and his award-winning independent studio in the future.

Meanwhile, Hideo Kojima posted on his social network reportKnowing the game was in danger of being canceled, Xbox became a willing partner to help complete development:

As previously confirmed through our official channels, in mid-June this year, we unexpectedly received notification from Playstation Studios that they intended to shut down the PHYSINT project. PHYSINT is an important project for me personally and for Kojima Productions. After deciding to save the game, we’ve spent the past three months working tirelessly to find a new partner. During consultations and negotiations with representatives from various fields of activity, we found XBOX, with whom we share a common vision for the future, and decided to join forces again. Rest assured that development of PHYSINT, our espionage action game that will become a benchmark in the genre, continues and will continue to progress.

Let’s recall that last June, Sony and Hideo Kojima jointly released the game “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach”, which is still exclusive to the PlayStation 5 console.
