The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating whether Nvidia’s licensing agreement with artificial intelligence accelerator startup Groq was intentionally designed to evade antitrust enforcement.

The U.S. Department of Justice began reviewing the arrangement shortly after it was formally announced in December and issued a formal information request to Nvidia. “Groq’s story is a prime example of how the American system achieves what it was designed to do: foster innovation, reward entrepreneurs, and benefit consumers.”,— commented NVIDIA Agreement.
The department and Groq have not commented on what happened. The Justice Department could fine Nvidia if it reveals irregularities in executing the deal, but is unlikely to seek to cancel the deal.
