Cooler Master has started selling the GPU Shield adapter, a device designed to protect powerful graphics cards from power issues, in the United States. For $49.99, buyers can get a small adapter for the 12V-2×6 connector that monitors the current on each contact and warns of problems. But American buyers are not as lucky as Chinese buyers.

The GPU expansion board features a multi-color LED ring and built-in buzzer. If the system detects an abnormal current, the device will alarm. In more severe cases, the adapter can automatically reduce the computer’s power consumption to limit further damage. There is also a 200mm cable to help you check that the connector is fully inserted.

The GPU Shield sells for about $50 in China, but the company offers a three-year warranty and promises full compensation if the connector melts under the terms of the warranty. In the US, the warranty is only one year, and there’s no promise of compensation for melted connectors on the product page.

This is especially true for RTX 5090 owners, who are surrounded by scandals of overheating and melting power cords.
