Why Apple was late to the foldable device market: Company management explains iPhone Duo launch

Following the recent launch of the iPhone 18 Pro series and the highly anticipated foldable iPhone Duo, Apple’s new CEO John Ternus and Chief Marketing Officer Greg Joswiak gave candid interviews to Tom’s Guide and TechRadar. Executives explained why the company waited so many years to launch its own foldable device.

According to Ternus, Apple’s key factor has always been quality: the company didn’t want to release a crude product, criticizing rival screens for “cheap plastic and unpleasant wavy folds.” Joswiak, in turn, commented on accusations of copying others’ “Passport” form factor, suggesting that leaks of Apple’s early developments pointed the way for rivals, but Cupertino managed to keep a unique folding display with a nano-textured coating a closely guarded secret. In addition, John Ternus also shared his recent feelings about taking on the role of CEO and admitted that working in the company has become a part of his life.
