During BlizzCon, they announced a shooter based on StarCraft and Diablo V. Both games are scheduled to be released soon, in spring 2030 and 2029 respectively. However, developers from both teams have said that the game is still in its early stages, and many players have criticized Blizzard’s decision to present the project as a trailer without actual gameplay.

Blizzard CEO Joanna Faris interviewed Bloomberg Responding to criticism of early announcements of SrarCraft and Diablo V. According to her, the studio wanted to show its confidence in releasing a major game within the specified time frame:

Joanna Faris

Blizzard President

We want to show confidence in some of our biggest bets going forward. We’re Blizzard and we’re going to release big games on time, and we’ll do everything we can to ensure the success of these projects.

Joanna Faris emphasized that Blizzard not only lists major games. The studio has other developments, including ones that have yet to be announced. In other words, “StarCraft” and “Diablo V” are not upcoming releases.

Joanna Faris

Blizzard President

We want teams to have the freedom to be creative and make really smart bets. Some of these bets may be large, and some may be closer to medium or small. […]

We want to make sure the fans who have supported Blizzard and our games for decades feel they are remembered and their interests are taken into consideration.

Joanna Farris also said she met with Asha Sharma at Blizzard in March, shortly after she was appointed to the position. According to the head of Blizzard, she conveyed to the new leadership her desire to preserve the studio’s unique culture and expressed her belief that this will also benefit Xbox.

Let’s remember that at the end of last fiscal year, Blizzard became the most successful Xbox team, showing growth amid widespread decline.
