Lexar brought an unusual portable SSD Muse to IFA 2026 in Berlin, which the company says is the world’s thinnest. Designed primarily for mobile content creators, the drive’s case takes up virtually no space in your bag or next to your smartphone.
Muse is only 3.8mm thick at its widest point, tapering to just 1mm at the edges. Measuring 80×48 mm, the drive features an all-metal casing and a special design that includes a thin printed circuit board, dense NAND memory layout and optimized component placement. Due to thickness limitations, Lexar ditched traditional USB-C and used a PogoPin magnetic connection.
The kit includes SnapLink cables with spring contacts and N52 neodymium magnets to hold the connection in place. Using a magnetic mount, the Muse can be placed on a compatible iPhone with MagSafe and record Apple ProRes 4K video directly to the SSD at up to 120 fps. At the same time, the sequential read speed reaches 1050MB/s and the write speed reaches 1000MB/s. The drive will be available in 512 GB and 1 TB versions and is expected to be released in the fourth quarter of 2026. Pricing has not yet been announced.
