Nvidia releases professional graphics card RTX Pro 5500 Blackwell workstation version, equipped with 84 GB GDDR7

Nvidia has launched another professional graphics card model for workstations based on the Blackwell architecture. The new RTX Pro 5500 Blackwell Workstation Edition is positioned between the flagship RTX Pro 6000 and the more affordable RTX Pro 5000, surpassing the latter in terms of memory capacity and acceptable power consumption.

Initially, information about the RTX Pro 5500 Blackwell Workstation Edition appeared on Taiwan’s Nvidia website, which sparked speculation about its regional exclusivity. However, the RTX Pro 5500 page is now available in the US, UK, India, and Japan markets, and the card itself is included in the RTX Pro Pro Solutions comparison chart on the company’s US website. PNY has also launched its own product page for the US market.

PNY provides more detailed technical specifications for the RTX Pro 5500 Blackwell Workstation Edition than Nvidia’s official website. The card comes with a GPU with 21,760 CUDA cores and 84 GB of GDDR7 memory, supporting ECC and a 416-bit bus. The memory bandwidth is 1398GB/s, and the maximum power consumption reaches 600W. This card uses PCIe 5.0 x16 interface and provides 4 channels of DisplayPort 2.1b video output.

The RTX Pro 5500 Blackwell Workstation Edition is also equipped with three ninth-generation NVENC encoding units and three sixth-generation NVDEC decoding units. Nvidia claims support for Multi-Instance GPU (MIG) technology, allowing the card to run as a single instance with 84 GB of memory, or as two independent instances with 42 GB of memory each. This card is designed for use in rack-mounted workstations and offers two cooling options: active air cooling or RXM liquid cooling.

In terms of features, the RTX Pro 5500 is closer to the flagship model RTX Pro 6000. The latter has 24,064 CUDA cores, 96 GB GDDR7 video memory, and the maximum power consumption is also 600 W. Therefore, the RTX Pro 5500 is about 9.6% inferior to the old model in terms of CUDA core count and about 12.5% ​​inferior in video memory. The memory bandwidth of 1,398 GB/s is also lower than the RTX Pro 6000’s 1,792 GB/s.

RTX Pro 5000 is the lower-end product of Blackwell’s professional card series. Its maximum power consumption is 300 W. This card is available in 48 or 72 GB GDDR7 memory configurations.

Nvidia has not yet announced the price of the RTX Pro 5500 Blackwell Workstation Edition. A regional product page on Nvidia’s website notes that the card will be available “soon” and that specifications are still preliminary.
