Sega and Netflix have partnered on several projects. Beyond that, Taxi and Sonic should be coming to streaming services, and there’s more.
Streaming media giant Netflix continues to build its video game brand and has now reached a new partnership with Sega. The two companies are acquiring several well-known SEGA brands and turning them into movies or TV shows on Netflix.
For example, a film adaptation should Crazy Taxi receive. The script will be written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who previously helmed the 2025 reboot of The Naked Gun. Several producers from the Sonic series are also involved, such as Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher and Toru Nakahara.
There are also planned projects in franchising Sonic and stranger than heaven. Carlos Stevens (Love, Death & Robots) and Toru Nakahara are set to launch a new Sonic animated series. This should have an element of comedy and be aimed at children.
Adapted by Yakuza maker RGG Studio, Strangers in Paradise will be more adult-oriented. There will be a live-action movie here that will offer “a new perspective on the epic world and series.” Tetsuya Nakahara serves as producer.
There’s no specific release date yet, but as expected, Crazy Taxi is likely to be implemented first; it could be released here as early as next year in 2027. This will also coincide with the release of Crazy Taxi World Tour, which is also scheduled for release this year.
