Microsoft has begun rolling out Urgent unscheduled updatedesigned to address issues that emerged after a record number of security fixes were included in September’s software packages. The company fixed nearly a thousand vulnerabilities in September, but the latest major Windows update affects business users, developers and gamers.

A major September update negatively affects shared folders, Remote Desktop Services sessions, and some USB audio devices in Linux virtual machines on Hyper-V. The update released this time fixes these issues in Windows 11 versions 26H1, 25H2, and 24H2; the company also released updates for Windows 10 LTSC, Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2, 2022, and 2025.
Previously, Microsoft rarely released unscheduled updates, but this year the practice has become more common. In January, the company had to release four unscheduled updates to fix issues caused by the main update; in March, two more were needed – they addressed issues with installation failures and logging into Microsoft accounts; and in July, we had to release an unscheduled update to fix an Intel driver issue that was causing performance degradation and faster battery drain.
