Samsung has quietly launched its Galaxy A18 mid-range smartphone in Europe. The new product supports 4G communication standard, which is only a slight upgrade compared to Galaxy A17 4G. The main change is the ditching of the Helio G99 chipset in favor of the new Exynos 1610. It is worth noting that the company did not talk about the technical characteristics of the new chip.

Samsung Galaxy A18 is equipped with a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 90Hz. There is a cutout for the 13MP selfie camera on the screen. The smartphone’s main camera unit includes a 500,000-pixel module (f/1.8 optics, no stabilization), a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens (f/2.4 optics), and a 2-megapixel macro camera. The main camera supports video recording in 1080p format and 30 frames per second. In this regard, the Exynos 1610 chipset does not surpass the capabilities of the Helio G99.
This smartphone has an IP64 rating, which means it is completely dustproof (A17 has a lower rating – IP54). The 5000 mAh battery is designed to be charged 1200 times and supports 25 W charger. According to Samsung, the battery can be charged to 50% in about half an hour.
The device comes with Android 17 operating system and proprietary One UI 9 shell. For the Galaxy A18, the manufacturer promises six years of operating system updates. Security updates will be released until October 2032.
The new smartphone is slightly larger than its predecessor, the A17. The new product has a body thickness of 7.7 mm and a weight of 196 grams. For the A17, those figures are 7.5mm and 190g respectively. The difference is unlikely to be noticeable to the naked eye, but the reason for it is interesting because the A18’s screen and battery haven’t gotten any larger.
The Galaxy A18 4G is now available on Samsung’s online store in France. The device is available in only one configuration with 4 GB RAM and 128 GB internal memory and is priced at 280 euros. Permanent storage capacity can be increased by supporting microSD memory cards. Orders will begin shipping on September 18th. The device will be available in one of three colors: grey, light blue or black.
According to a Norwegian press release, the Galaxy A18 4G with 128 GB of memory will be priced at NOK 3,290. A version with 256 GB of permanent memory is also mentioned, priced at CZK 5190. In Sweden, these models are priced at SEK 3,290 and SEK 5,190 respectively, but the Galaxy A18 4G is not yet available on local online stores.
It is worth noting that the Galaxy A17 4G model, which went on sale last year, costs 200 euros for the 6/128 GB memory configuration.
