After MindsEye almost failed, the development studio now appears to be on the verge of closing. Another wave of layoffs.
MindsEye released PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S versions over a year ago, but the launch was a disaster and almost failed. Now this appears to have had rather serious consequences for the development studio, which is reportedly closing down.
Apparently another wave of layoffs is coming – and soon “Building Rocket Boys” may no longer exist. For example, Dan Hawkins, who works for the developer, stated this in a statement via LinkedIn:
“It is with a heavy heart that I, like my colleagues at Build a Rocket Boy, put the green banner on my profile picture,” explained, referring to the green #OpentoWork banner, before adding: “I will be with BARB to the end and help with the HR department.”
References to a settlement should be understood as a clear indication that the development studio is about to close. Other employees, such as former lead 3D weapon/prop artist Adam Ridsdale, at least confirmed the news of their dismissals: “Unfortunately, like my colleagues at Build a Rocket Boy, I have been affected by the layoffs and am now looking for new career opportunities.”
MindsEye had a very difficult start in June 2025, leading to layoffs at that time. This game is also considered one of the worst games in video games of 2025. They hope to remedy the situation with a major update in early 2026, but that doesn’t seem to be saving the studio either.
