Honor announced the MagicOS 11 operating system based on Android 17 at the Global Developers Conference. The new platform is built on the Luminous Glass architecture, providing a more transparent and smooth system visual style. One of the platform’s features is a “liquid glass” design inspired by Apple’s iOS.

The company said that the Luminous Glass architecture involves a deeper restructuring of Android at the system level, allowing interface elements to create a more consistent transparent glass effect.
Honor developed a “liquid glass” design using its own Luminous and Hummingbird architecture. They optimize user interface dynamics, artificial intelligence processing, and hardware performance. The transparency of interface elements can be continuously adjusted, giving the system a more flexible visual presentation than using fixed transparency levels.
MagicOS 11 also includes Honor’s new Hummingbird architecture, which focuses on smoother animations and system responsiveness. The company noted that despite a more complex design structure, the new MagicOS 11 platform offers 20% smoother animations and faster performance compared to previous versions.
Another important difference is that the updated Yoyo AI assistant supports more than 1,000 use cases and can be integrated with more than 10,000 third-party artificial intelligence services (at least in China). Honor claims that the updated AI assistant can perform a series of tasks in a sequence of up to 100 steps. The new platform also uses Storage Space 2.0 memory optimization technology to free up storage space through data compression and automatic cleaning of redundant files.
MagicOS 11 adds support for connecting two Bluetooth headsets to the device at the same time. The smart Hongyan AI cloud map function has also been launched, which can improve communication under difficult network conditions. When the signal is weak, the system can automatically select the best network connection to maintain stable operation. In addition, support for multi-protocol fast charging has also been added.
The update aims to improve charging efficiency to compliant standards, with Honor highlighting improvements to wireless charging.
Additionally, MagicOS 11 can smoothly share files with Apple devices as well as Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi devices.
MagicOS 11 will be launched on the Honor Magic9 series of smartphones. Currently, more than 18 devices are open for public testing, including the Magic8 series, Magic V6 and Honor 600.
