
A new leak reveals the features of Sony’s Project Canis portable gaming console, which is being dubbed the PSP 3 in GameGPU material. The device will be powered by a 3nm AMD chip and will rely less on “raw” power and more on upgrades to new versions.
According to sources, the processor will combine six Zen 6 cores (four Zen 6c and two energy-saving Zen 6 LP) with 16 RDNA 5 compute units and 24 GB LPDDR5X via a 192-bit bus. In portable mode, the chip will operate at 1.2 GHz and produce 4.91 Tflops. When connected to the docking station, the frequency will increase to 1.65 GHz and the performance will reach 6.75 Tflops. Power consumption will be limited to the 15-25 W range.
Presumably, the main feature of the Canis project is PSSR 3.0 with full frame generation. GameGPU claims that due to power constraints, the game will render at 540p and be upscaled to 1080p. Taking this technology into account, the effective performance will be 10-11 Tflops in portable mode and about 14 Tflops in docked mode. For comparison, the PlayStation 5 Pro has a computing speed of 16.7 teraflops.
The leak also echoes an earlier statement from insider Kepler_L2, who compared Project Canis to the Xbox Series S. However, all of these features are still unofficial, so it’s too early to consider them as final specs for the console.
