bungee publish She issued an appeal to fans and announced changes to the development plans for the Destiny and Marathon universes. Studio management acknowledged the mistakes made and stated that they intend to return previously removed content to Destiny 2 and gradually transform Marathon into a survival game with more depth and options for players.
The studio admitted that in recent years it had lost the trust of its audience, lost employees, and was too far removed from the interests of players.
“We don’t just listen to feedback, we understand your frustration. We’re not asking you to believe what we say today. We know that trust must be earned through the quality of our games, the decisions we make, and the consistency of our interactions with our players,” management said in a statement.
The main focus will once again be Destiny. Despite the early announcement of the end of support for Part 2, Bungie has committed to continuing development of the series beyond the previously announced final update. The studio hopes to return the game to an atmosphere of mystery, exploration, and confrontation with danger, and the first step will be to restore content previously removed from the game.
The developers have begun working on returning the story campaigns, locations, and raids sent to the Vault to Destiny 2. Upon return, the content will be available to all Destiny 2 players. We’re not talking about simply restoring old files. Since Beyond Light’s release, the game’s lighting, combat mechanics, enemies, and other elements have changed, so the returned material had to be adapted to a modern version of the game. More detailed plans are expected to be announced in the coming months.
“We can’t change the decisions we made, but we can acknowledge the consequences and take the necessary steps to correct the situation by restoring an important part of Destiny’s history,” Bunge said.
Bungie management views Marathon as a separate part of the company’s future, not a replacement for Destiny. The game received a positive response from critics and players, but didn’t attract as many users as the studio had hoped. Now the developers will keep the core of Marathon, but expand the game beyond the limitations of the original genre into a deeper survival experience.
During the first year, Bungie plans to continue improving the combat system, game world, and competitive components. At the same time, the author hopes to give players more freedom to choose their game style, including cooperative battles in PvE, competitive matches between players, and hybrid formats where both elements exist simultaneously. A Nightfall update is already planned for October and a Symbiosis update for December, with further development details for Marathon to be announced at a later date.
Bungie will also be changing its internal processes. The studio has reduced the number of parallel plans, streamlined priorities, and shifted more power to the teams directly developing the games. New commitments include long-term development of Destiny by restoring the past, expanding marathons, increasing transparency on development priorities, and regularly informing players of changes to plans.
“Rebuilding trust takes time. We’re not going to do it with words. We’re going to do it through the games we create and how we treat our players,” Bungie executives said.
