Polish development studio CD Projekt RED has announced more details about its upcoming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered. As confirmed by the company, the new version of the role-playing epic will officially be included in the Xbox Play Anywhere program starting September 29, 2026. So far, the Xbox versions have only benefited from Smart Delivery for their respective console generations. Through integration with Play Anywhere, owners of the digital Xbox version can directly access the PC version in the Windows ecosystem at no additional cost, including automatic synchronization of saves and achievements.
This tweak is cross-platform and available to all buyers and existing customers who take advantage of free remastered upgrades to Microsoft platforms. Integration with the Play Anywhere system significantly increases usability for players using multiple devices, as game progress can be transferred seamlessly between Xbox Series X/S and Windows PC. This also allows for easy operation on compatible handheld devices such as the ASUS ROG Ally via the Xbox app.
This provision only affects the Microsoft Store and Xbox infrastructure; other digital PC distribution channels such as Steam, GOG or the Epic Games Store are not affected by this special licensing model.
Along with the technical connections, the remaster package scheduled for release on September 29th also includes a number of comprehensive modifications. In addition to visual beautification, lighting modifications, ray tracing support, and texture adjustments, the developers have also integrated numerous game mechanics upgrades. These include modernized skill trees, an overhaul system for armor appearances, and new Terminator animations in combat. In addition, two story expansions for Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are included in the remaster.
With this step, CD Projekt RED solidifies its reputation for a user-friendly release policy shortly before the remaster’s release. The studio is offering free upgrades to existing owners of the original version and leveraging streamlined PC access through the Xbox ecosystem to maintain long-term loyalty to the series’ player base ahead of the development of future franchise projects.
