The Destiny 2 community and content leaders celebrated the game’s triumphant return: Just three months after the shooter entered hiatus mode, Bungie and Sony have announced they are reversing the decision. Such a swift refusal to shut down a flagship project is unprecedented in the history of the industry, and was made possible thanks to unprecedented pressure from fans.
The campaign to save the game included launching a petition on the Change.org platform that collected over 400,000 signatures, coordinating protests on social networks and Sony Radio, and using spam slogans such as We want Destiny 3and consistently high online levels, many times higher than other studio projects.
As a show of goodwill, Bungie has begun working to bring content previously removed from the Vault (DCV) back into the game. However, some members of the community and high-profile streamers like Datto and Gladd maintain a healthy dose of skepticism, looking back at past instances of broken promises and attrition in half-empty studios.
