Streaming platform w.tv has kicked off the second season of its own tournament deadlock. This competition is named w.tv tournament deadlock 02 And again, this happens with the support of the platform itself. The matches are broadcast directly on w.tv, and viewers can choose between Russian or English broadcasts.
The event attracts attention primarily because of the scale of international participation. While Deadlock still doesn’t have a full-fledged official esports scene or regular tournament support from the developer and publisher, its own competitive community is still forming around the game. The qualifying tournament held on September 20th is a good example of this interest.
A total of 34 teams and 204 players participated in the qualifying stage. At the same time, the representatives 24 countries at oncewhich seems to be a considerable result for a tournament organized mainly in the Russian-speaking information space. As expected, the largest number of players are from Russia – 157. Representatives of Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan also participated in the qualifying rounds.
However, the geography of participants is far limited to the CIS countries. Regions represented include the United Kingdom, Poland, Germany, Czech Republic, France, Austria, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Ireland and Belgium. In addition, teams and players from Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Moldova, Turkey, Israel, Georgia and even Canada participated.
Another event is the participation of women’s teams. This is still a fairly rare occurrence in the stalemate competitive scene, so her presence in the tournament further highlights that the gaming community is gradually becoming more diverse and beyond a small group of regular participants.
Some teams received direct invitations to participate in the main part of the tournament. These include Abrahams, Leviathan and Kastalia – a new roster built around Oses and Freemok, both of whom are well-known among players in the competitive world. The remaining participants can advance further through open selection. Based on the results of the qualifying rounds, seats in the group stage were awarded to Oblivion, Thrushes, trashcan, mischief and bartender Angus.
w.tv Championship Deadlock 02 group stage has begun September 22, 12:30 Moscow time. The competition will last for six days, up to and including September 27. Viewers can therefore expect an almost continuous series of broadcasts featuring the best teams that have successfully qualified.
Another characteristic of the event is that it actually develops from the bottom up: in the absence of a mature official Deadlock esports ecosystem, such events become the first platform for the community to form stable teams, players and international connections. If interest in such events continues to grow, such tournaments could play an important role in the continued growth of the gaming arena landscape.
