WhatsApp is working on a new Contacts tab for the iOS version of the app, which will replace the current Updates section. This change is related to the reorganization of the navigation bar and the movement of status and channels in the chat tab.
The new section isn’t just for collecting contacts, however. WhatsApp is already working on some additional features, and the latest iOS beta shows this A system for remembering birthdays of people in your address book.
WhatsApp will show birthdays directly next to contacts
After first appearing in Android beta, the feature was discovered in WhatsApp beta on iOS 26.38.10.18 and distributed via TestFlight. When a contact has a birthday, it will show up in a new tab Cake icon with the words “birthday today”. This alert will remain visible throughout the day, eliminating the need for you to open the Calendar app or manually set reminders.

However, the feature is still under development and currently not available even to beta testers. WhatsApp may change the way it works before its final rollout, but it hasn’t indicated a date for a public launch. Even the Contacts tab itself isn’t available to everyone. Its launch is tied to a wider reorganization of the WhatsApp interface on iOS, which involves moving statuses and channels to the Chats tab. Only after these changes will the new section replace “Updates” in the bottom bar.
