In 2027, the government may change the list of Russian programs that must be pre-installed on TVs with smart TV capabilities to add the RuStore app store to it. This was reported by the TASS news agency, referring to a draft resolution drafted by the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation and published on the draft law portal.
The Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation must submit a proposal to adjust the list of pre-installed Russian programs on smart TVs before March 1, 2027.
“Pre-installation of domestic app stores should guarantee access to Russian services on TVs with Smart TV capabilities and allow the implementation of pre-installation requirements, including for applications currently unavailable on Google Play and Google TV,” – The department reports.
The Ministry of Digital Development pointed out that the draft resolution provides legal and technical opportunities for the pre-installation of the Russian app store RuStore on TVs with smart TV capabilities, while emphasizing that use of RuStore is voluntary for device owners.
RuStore changed owners a few months ago. It was purchased from VK Holding by Dmitry Pankrushev, director of the developer company. It should also be noted that, despite requirements under Russian legislation, RuStore has never been added to the list of pre-installed apps on iOS devices. In this regard, FAS filed a lawsuit against Apple.
