World of Warcraft: Eternal’s beta has been affected by a massive social crisis. An army of fans of famous streamer Asmon Gold has dominated the server, creating a guild network with the common name “Olympus”, with participants limited to a few thousand. This influx severely destabilized PvP activity and the overall atmosphere of the game, leading to complaints of spam and disruptive behavior in chat.
They tried to solve the problem through the community itself: user Solastro developed a client plug-in that completely isolates Olympus members from the player interface, blocking messages and invitations without filling out the standard ignore list.
Do you think it’s reasonable to create fan retention and similar protective modifications in MMORPGs to combat the toxicity of big influencers?
