The modified New Nintendo 3DS game console can now run modern PC games through NVIDIA GeForce NOW cloud services. To that end, an enthusiast who goes by the nickname p0mpurin developed the Kasumi app, which allows you to stream games to the portable console released in 2015. At the same time, the 3DS itself doesn’t have to run the game locally: the entire computing load falls on NVIDIA servers.
The program supports resolutions up to 960 × 540 pixels and a frame rate of 30 frames per second. To display the images, a hardware video decoder is used, which is built into the newer New 3DS series. The original Nintendo 3DS and 2DS are not supported because they lack the necessary hardware. To work, you also need to install custom Luma3DS firmware.
The developers adapted the app to accommodate the limitations of the console’s wireless connection. This stream is rated at around 1 Mbps, as higher speeds start to cause packet loss. Specified network latency is approximately 60-80 milliseconds, not including additional buffering. Each game has button remapping, gyroscope controls, on-screen keyboard and trackpad.
